Akbar Peerbhoy College was established on 16th June, 1969 by the Anjuman-i-Islam, Mumbai. It was originally started as Anjuman College of Commerce & Economics, but in the year 1975 it was dedicated to the memory of late Mr. Akbar Peerbhoy , a noted Barrister, Philanthropist, Educationist and founder of the college and is now known as Anjuman-i-Islam Akbar Peerbhoy College of Commerce & Economics. The college is affiliated to the University of Mumbai for the teaching courses of studies up to B.Com Degree Examination (Three-year integrated B.Com Degree course). In addition the college also conducts certificate courses in computer programming (Software), Diploma in Business Management and has also started the Degree Courses of the Bachelor's in Management Studies (BMS) and Bachelor's of Science in Information Technology (B.Sc.-I.T.), B.Sc. (Comp. Science), from the year of 2004-2005 college has started 2 year post graduate course of the Masters of Science in Information Technology and M.Com.
